So you’ve gotten yourself a bowed psaltery and now you want to know how to care for it. Come join this class! We’ll go over care for your psaltery, bows, tuning, rosin, re-hailing the bows, bowed psaltery stands, and any questions you may have.

Simple Tunes

We will be playing several simple tunes on the bowed psaltery, going over the basics of smooth bowing, getting familiar with the instrument and having FUN!

Class #5J 1:00 – 2:15 Bowed Psaltery

Smooth Bowing

The songs “O Danny Boy”, “Ash Grove” and “Shall We Gather at the River” will be taught as we learn how using bow direction and other techniques wil help you smoothly navigate around your psaltery. Learning these songs we will analyze the best, quickest, smoothest way to bow while fearlessly playing songs with black notes, all in a way to really make your psaltery sing!

Celtic Airs

“Lament for Charles MacCabe”, “The Mist Covered Mountains of Home”, “The Foggy Dew”, and “Come by the Hills. We will be using our smooth techniques to play these lovely slow airs.

Class #12J 4:00 – 5:15 Bowed Psaltery

Embellishments

“Loch Lomond”, “Be Thou My Vision, and “Down in the Valley” will be used as we learn to apply embellishments of turns, trills, glissandos, and grace notes.
